Wolfson offers a broad portfolio of audio product solutions for portable navigation systems. These products have a range of features suitable for everything from entry level navigation systems requiring voice driven direction commands to top of the range navigation devices which incorporate functions such as Bluetooth communications, multimedia playback, mobile television, and FM radio modes.

Advanced portable navigation systems have a host of features, including Bluetooth communications capability for hands-free call modes, MP3 modes, FM radio and TV modes, and slick user interfaces such as touch screen controls. Wolfson audio hub codecs such as WM8753 and WM9713 can incorporate all of the real world interfacing required of these advanced user driven interface modes in one complete IC solution. Both WM8753 and WM9713 have 2 full digital audio interfaces, where the multimedia processor is connected to the first interface and the Bluetooth chipset to the second interface. Once audio data is transferred via the digital interface, the mixing and digital signal processing features of these codecs allow powerful audio manipulation for the system designer to offer to the end user. These audio hub codecs also both feature a number of audio input pins, capable of interfacing with audio signals from, for example an FM radio chipset, as well as supporting microphones for voice capture in voice recognition enabled systems. Audio hub output drivers are capable of driving speakers in class D mode, line drivers for additional speaker amplifier inputs (such as the input connections to WM9001 class D mono speaker driver) and headphones (useful in MP3 / media player modes). Finally, touch screen functions can be offered to the end user by using the integrated resistive touch screen controller featured on WM9713.
