Multi-band EQ
Overview
Consumers today are increasingly demanding of the audio they experience from their mobile devices, seeking to replicate on the move the audio quality delivered by their home stereo systems. They also expect to be able to tune the audio to suit their personal preferences or the genre of music they’re listening to.
The SoundStage Multi-Band Equaliser (MB EQ) from Sonaptic gives them this capability, allowing them to choose from a number of presets tailored to music genre, or to boost selected parts of the frequency spectrum to create their own preferred listening style.
For device manufacturers, the MB EQ is a low resource implementation designed specifically for mobile devices that offers great flexibility in terms of the number of bands and the design control parameters. Where there is no user interface in the consumer device, the MB EQ can be used to boost or attenuate frequencies to optimise playback audio quality on small or sub-optimal speakers.

Implementation Data
Sonaptic SoundStage uses a modular architecture developed specifically for mobile handsets, where our highly efficient software makes maximum use of the limited processing power and available memory. Over 40 million handsets worldwide make use of Sonaptic’s audio enhancement technology to vastly improve the consumer experience of multimedia content and 3D games.
Our expertise in low MIPs and memory footprint implementations enables manufacturers to configure SoundStage solutions for a huge variety of devices, delivering great sound whatever the memory and processing budget. A typical installation requires around 0.5 MIPs per EQ band, so a 5 band EQ requires just 2.5 MIPs at 48 kHz. Other implementations may vary from this. Supported sample rates are 22050, 32000, 44100 and 48000 Hz.
