Wolfson Stereo CODEC Targets Sound for Digital Video
Monday, December 19, 2005
Edinburgh, UK, 19 December 2005 - Wolfson Microelectronics (LSE:WLF.L) today introduced the WM8569 stereo CODEC, targeted for a range of audio applications including sound cards, digital televisions, DVD-RW devices and the rapidly growing portable video recorder market.

The WM8569 is part of Wolfson's high-performance, multi-channel CODEC family. The user can control the ADC and DAC clocks independently, allowing different record and playback rates. The device is both software and hardware controllable for flexible, easy implementation. The single chip solution reduces design complexity whilst outperforming common two-chip options at significantly lower price.

'As the demand for high quality audio in digital entertainment applications, including portable video, continues to grow, designers need greater flexibility, reduced complexity and reduced cost in the components they use,' said Julian Hayes, vice president of marketing for Wolfson. 'Products like Wolfson's WM8569 deliver those benefits along with the performance and broad feature set the market demands.'

The WM8569 comprises a stereo 103dB SNR 24-bit multi-bit sigma delta DAC with oversampling and digital interpolation filters providing the output signal. It has a stereo 24-bit multi-bit, 100dB SNR sigma delta ADC and programmable audio-data interface modes supporting I2S, DSP, left and right-justified digital-audio formats. The WM8569 operates at analogue supply voltages from 2.7 to 5.5V and 2.7 to 3.6V for digital supplies.

Availability
The WM8569 is now available for sampling in a 28-pin SSOP
