Wolfson sponsors 20th annual Edinburgh International Science Festival
Thursday, March 27, 2008
Inspiring young people with technology to blow their minds

Edinburgh, 27th March 2008 – Wolfson Microelectronics plc is a major supporter of the 20th annual Edinburgh International Science Festival - the world’s first and Europe’s largest public celebration of science and technology. The 12-day festival, running from the 25th March to the 5th April, offers over 130 events aimed at demonstrating the value of engineering and science and inspiring children and teenagers to take an interest.

Dave Shrigley, CEO of Wolfson commented: “2008 marks the Edinburgh International Science Festival’s 20th birthday. As a technology leader and proud member of the Edinburgh community, we are delighted to be supporting the event once again. Inspirational events like this are crucial in encouraging the future lifeblood of our industry and showing just how much fun science and technology can be.”

As a major sponsor, Wolfson will host several interactive events and shows within the “Wonderama Show Zone”. This includes the hugely popular Jungle Safari. A sell-out last year, this fantastic audio and visual experience takes children on a torch lit sensory journey through the deepest, darkest and densest region of the Amazonian jungle in a night time exploration of nocturnal sounds.

Nat Edington, VP of marketing at Wolfson comments: “The unique Jungle Safari experience really appeals to the human senses and fits perfectly with Wolfson’s passion for great, natural sounding audio.”

Other events during the festival include a world exclusive appearance by Skeletron, the famous rope climbing robot and winner of the robot Olympic Games, who will be bringing along her newest piece of robot technology – the Skelebug. In addition, at Mini Machines, younger children can make gadgets and moving toys; whilst at Face Morph, visitor’s faces will be transformed using the latest advances in facial computer vision and graphics.
