Wolfson Becomes Mixed-Signal Supplier of Choice for PDA Vendors
Monday, January 20, 2003
Edinburgh, UK, 20, January 2003 - Wolfson Microelectronics plc has received endorsement for its high-performance audio CODECs from two leading players in the consumer electronics field. Both Toshiba and Dell have incorporated the WM9705 audio CODEC in their latest high end PDAs.
As communications, multimedia and computing applications converge in consumer products, the need for high-performance audio and video components has also increased, said Wolfsons managing director, David Milne. Being selected for inclusion in products such as Dells Axim X5 and Toshibas e740 demonstrates that Wolfson is supplying the market with advanced products with functions that it needs right now.
The WM9705, audio CODEC delivers a convergence of audio and PDA facilities to portable information devices. At the same time, the WM9705 conforms to Intels AC97 Revision 2.2 audio specification, whilst integrating advanced features such as stereo headphone driver and touch screen controller.
The audio section provides full-duplex 18-bit codec functions and supports variable sample rates from 8 to 48k samples/sec with high signal to noise ratio. Additional audio features include 3D sound enhancement, line-level outputs and stereo-buffered headphone outputs. The WM9705 also features microphone and headphone switching capabilities that make it a good choice for mobile comms applications
