Monday, February 17, 2003
Edinburgh, UK, 17 February 2003. Wolfson Microelectronics plc has announced today it will provide high quality audio and peripheral functions for the Intel® PXA262 Cellular Phone Reference design, announced at the 3GSM World Congress.
Our work with Intel® to add a multimedia grade audio experience and other features to their reference design demonstrates both our ability to support industry leading platforms, as well as the technical superiority of our high performance CODEC devices. said Julian Hayes, Vice President, Marketing, Wolfson Microelectronics.
The Wolfson WM9712L codec complements Intel® PXA262 processors to provide an enhanced multimedia audio user experience, said Mark Casey, director of product marketing for Intels PCA components group. The codec is a highly functional audio companion for the next generation of cellular phones based on Intels Xscale processors.
As a result of the collaboration, Intel is to include the Wolfson WM9712L CODEC in its reference design. The WM9712L is part of a family of products with functions aimed at the growing market for multi media mobile equipment, and connects directly to Intels XScale
processors. In addition to support during development, Wolfson provided Intel with hardware and software drivers to enable the shortest time to market.
About the Wolfson WM9712LThe WM9712L provides a Hi-Fi stereo codec, audio signal processing and mixing with a comprehensive touch screen controller. The design has been optimised to remove processor intensive routines from the applications processor, minimise board space and reduce power. This combination of features allows full integration of the human interfaces in the most efficient way.
